You shouldnt be in Jail if your problem is being unable to pay your fine on a traffic ticket.
Recently Las Vegas made it so youll no longer be jailed on traffic tickets that turn into warrants. This is really important.
I dont see why a program cant be introduced for people who are unable to pay non violent fines and tickets where they can volunteer their time with the community and “work off “ money owed.
My Husband has been arrested a couple times for just this. I watched them arrest him, threaten to take our car and it was all over a tail light ticket that turned to a warrant due to his inability to pay. Were extra broke, but i think we thrive in it, out side of this.
Each time it ruined his life in some way. He definitely lost a job, and always pay. but theres been other little consequences that happen after a couple days in jail. Hes not a violent person or a threat to society. My Heart broke each time. I fell in love with him because hes always trying to be in. a better place in life, and this nonsensical arrests set him back and chipped away at his enthusiasm each time.He didnt derserve this. No One does.
THANK GOD this new law hopefully prevents this for everyone in this situation.
