Light Phone II Launch

We’re excited to announce that the Light Phone II has begun shipping.

A special thanks to all of our backers for helping to make this project a reality. We’re humbled to have raised over $3.5 million on our crowdfunding campaign for Light II.

We’d also like to thank all of our private investors that have supported Light over the course of the last few years. Today, we’re announcing for the first time, that we’ve raised $8.4 million in seed funding from investors like Foxconn, Bullish, Hinge Capital, Product Co-Op, John Zimmer (co-founder, Lyft), Tim Kendall (CEO, Moment), Scott Belsky (Chief Product Officer, Adobe) and more. It takes a lot to build a phone from scratch!

In conjunction with the launch, we have a new website. We’ve graduated from crowdfunding and you can now pre-order the Light Phone II from us directly.

www.thelightphone.com

Pre-order for $350 at thelightphone.com for delivery by the end of October.

We’re in the process of fulfilling all of our existing pre-orders and building out our roadmap of additional tools. It’s been amazing to have a supporting community to learn from through surveys and conversations about the project. We’re making a better phone thanks to them.

Light is a radically different technology brand. Light builds beautiful objects that respect and empower. Shipping the Light Phone II is just the beginning.

It’s about the right tool for the job.

Simple communication is at the heart of our phone. The Light Phone II comes with the core functionality of calls and messaging as well as an alarm.

We’ll be releasing a variety of additional tools that users can optionally add to their device, things like directions, music & ride-sharing to things like a calculator or voice memo tool. We’ve built a user dashboard website to make managing your phone easy. These various tools will be released ongoing over the course of the next year.

While considering additional functionality for the Light Phone II, it’s important to remember all of the things that it will never have. The Light Phone II will never have social media, email, news or advertising. Our tools are intentional, there is a clear objective in opening the tool, it’s not an infinite feed. Not only is this a philosophy of ours, we’ve actually designed the hardware to reflect this as well with a small black and white screen that inherently limits its potential to be an entertainment device of images/videos.

It will be exciting to continue to learn from our early adopters and we’re eager to continue our conversations. What future tools would you like to see on the Light Phone II? What are the things that keep you turning back to your smartphone?

As with all of our products, the Light Phone II is not pretending to be a magical solution to all our vulnerabilities when it comes to technology. It’s a large aspect of a wholistic lifestyle change perhaps. It’s more like a series of important questions you’ll ask yourself than an answer. Crossing the wall of f.o.m.o. is not going to be easy, but we can’t imagine anything more worth it.

Much love,
Light
