A Song About Life And Advice For The Youth
Have you heard of this song called “Everybody’s Free”?
From the first lyrics, it looks like it’s a speech for a crowd of graduating students. Then the speaker/singer gives many pieces of life advice.
Apparently, this was recorded in 1997, but now, 25 years later the advice still sticks for many people.
The song touches on different topics, like body positivity, not comparing ourselves to others, and uncertainty about the future and being okay with it.
Here are some of my favorite lines:
“If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it.”
“Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind. The race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself.”
“Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life.”
“Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel UGLY.”
“Don’t expect anyone else to support you.”
“Enjoy your body.”
We all have limited time on this Earth.
Imagine looking at yourself from a third-person perspective. Then zoom out. Look at yourself from the sky, from a skyscraper, from the top of the Earth, from space, from the moon.
When I look at myself and my life from a bird’s eye view, I remember I am one person out of billions.
I remember that though my life is about me, the world is not.
Everyone is on their own path, putting in the effort to make life worth it.
In the end, life is short so why not have a bit of fun and remember the things that matter?
Us. Our bodies. Our friendships. The connections we make and the ones that leave before we know it.
Let’s be grateful for what we have now, and when opportunities come in the future, we will be grateful for them too.
