The more I think about it, the more I think our success or failures are more determined by chance than by what we do. For sure, there are broad lines about what not to do, and what to do. But my wife and I were together for 3 years before we married, and we stayed together for 22 years, and now we're headed towards divorce. (My first, her third.)
